Footnote 525

This explanation, through a direct quote from she herself, is given even in the Condemnation transcript: "...she says that the first time she heard her Voice she vowed to keep her virginity as long as it pleased God...". (For the original, see "Le Procès de Condamnation...", folio 29r, lines 34 - 35; and (in transcription) Quicherat's "Procès...", Vol I, p. 128. For translations, see: Oursel's "Les Procès de Jeanne d'Arc", p. 65); Barrett's "The Trial of Jeanne d'Arc", pp. 97 - 98).

The same testimony specifies that she made the promise directly to Saints Catherine and Margaret as 'those who had been sent by God':
"Questioned whether she spoke to God when she promised Him to keep her virginity, she replied that it certainly should be sufficient to promise this to those who had been sent by God, that is to say Saints Catherine and Margaret." (For the original, see "Le Procès de Condamnation...", folio 29r, lines 27 - 30; and (in transcription) Quicherat's "Procès...", Vol I, p. 127. For translations, see: Oursel's "Les Procès de Jeanne d'Arc", p. 65); Barrett's "The Trial of Jeanne d'Arc", p. 97).
