From the deposition of the Duke of Alencon: "... there were gathered together up to six hundred lances of the King's men wishing to go to the town of Jargeau, which the English held under occupation; and that night we slept in a certain forest; and on the morrow came other Royal troops led by the lord Bastard of Orleans and Lord Florent d'Illiers, and certain other captains; and the combined assembly was found to be about twelve hundred lances..."
